ABSTRACT
Domestic violence is one of Nigeria’s most significant public health problems. It refers to acts of gender-based violence that cause or have the potential to cause physical, sexual, emotional, mental and/or economic harm. It is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. This research seeks to uncover the role of social media in creating awareness about domestic violence in Nigeria. Three research questions and two research hypotheis were set to guide the research work, 140 respondents were sampled for this research and the study focused on the couples in Ikeja, Lagos. It was concluded that social media representation studies dominate research in the area. Collectively, these studies illustrate that the media frequently mirrors society’s confusion and ambivalence about violence against women.
